1st shift 10 hour days Tuesday – Friday

Constructs or repairs a wide variety of tools, dies, jigs, gauges, fixtures, to close tolerances. Does highly skilled fitting, adjusting, and timing. Performs most tool room machine operations. Works from drawings and sketches. Uses advance shop mathematics and all types of measuring instruments. Typical work products include building components for hot chamber die casting molds, replacement parts for die cast machines, fixtures and grippers for the robotics and coating departments and checking fixtures and gauges for the quality control department.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

 Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances.

 Measure, mark, and scribe dimensions and reference points on material or work-piece as guides for subsequent machining.

 Select, align, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers.

 Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant, flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit Computerized Machine Control media.

 Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of- tolerance machining, and adjust machine controls or control media as required.

 Verify conformance of finished work-piece to specifications.

 Use high spot dykem to assess how mold fits. Make changes as needed.

 Create tools, jigs, fixtures and templates to use as work aids.

 Keep work area clean and orderly.

 Install new or replacement parts in molds and test to ensure functionality.

 Each operator may have varied responsibilities.

 Other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS/SPECIFICATIONS:

 Requires trade school and/or 2 or more years of tool room experience, or equivalent.

 Ability to use advanced shop mathematics.

 Ability to use a variety of measuring instruments.

 Must be able to layout work from blueprints, sketches and written specs.

 Working knowledge of Bridgeport mills, manual lathes, Fanuc-controlled vertical machining centers, surface grinders, jig grinders, ID/OD grinders, CNC lathes, EDM sinker machines and miscellaneous tool room equipment necessary.

 Experience working with Virtual Gibbs or similar CAM software preferred.
